Gray & Air Rehab45 | Ep. 3 - Follow The Signs Ahead

On this week's episode of Rehab45, Gray and Air share the progress that’s been made at the project since the last episode. They discuss design options for the finish out while braving Ikea for their first time as a family. Stay tuned to see how the experience goes and if they will ever visit the store again (hint: not anytime soon).

Cool People Doing Cool Things : Lucky Fish Designs

We caught up with our client turned good friend, Adam Saltzer, Owner of Lucky Fish Designs – a custom furniture and woodworking business, to talk all things South Austin, carpentry and home renovation. Although we’ve known Adam for a little over a year, it seems like he has always been our South Austin neighbor. And with a career in furniture design and woodworking, we instantly hit it off.

In the beginning of 2017, after completing an intensive hand-tool woodworking program in Washington, Adam, along with his girlfriend and friend, packed up everything and headed to Austin... for the first time! It was a good decision, to say the least. After getting a feel for the 78745 and loving what he saw, Adam reached out to Gray for help establishing good ole’ Central Texas roots.

“I met Gray through my girlfriend, Becca. She grew up with Gray and has multiple family members who used him to find their homes in South Austin. They all had great home buying experiences and had only good things to say about him. After learning he is a South Austin native, is active in the community, and dabbles in woodworking too, I knew I found my guy!”

Adam bought his property a few months ago and hasn’t looked back. He is busy building his company (from his garage), renovating his new home, and exploring all that South Austin has to offer.

“My favorite thing to do in South Austin is to go for a climb at Crux Climbing Gym and then walk over the 100 ft. to Cosmic Coffee and Beer to hang out. It’s such a cool space and such a great little community is built around that little nook off Pickle Rd.”

But Adam’s true passion is found in his work. It all started with a wood sculpture class he took back in college. He instantly fell in love with the concept of wood as an art medium, which eventually evolved into furniture design.

“Furniture offers the chance to express oneself in nuanced ways while marrying both form and function.  At the end of the day, no matter how pretty your chair is, if it hurts to sit in it; you haven’t really made a good chair now have you?” says Adam.

The process, he continues, is all about listening to the client and getting a thorough feel for that client’s aesthetic. Adam can then take that information and turn it into a one-of-a-kind design made to suit the client’s lifestyle.

It’s this kind of personalized service and attention to detail that we love so much and that can only be found from local businesses like Lucky Fish Designs.

We think Adam put it perfectly. “There’s a profound sense of camaraderie. We’re all just here trying to find our way and have a good time doing it. We’ve got each others backs and work together to help accomplish our goals.”
